Opportunity for Partners

Christian Buckley
Jul 15, 2015 09:14 UTC/GMT

At WPC in Orlando on July 15, 2015, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner made a huge push for partners to focus on managed services and developing IP. He's used the phrase "We're all ISVs" a couple times, which Phil Sorgen brought up.

Phil talked about this push at length in his presentation to the Seattle IAMCP a few weeks back (see my post) about moving SIs (solution integrators) from services and reselling alone, to managed services, bundling, and ultimately, IP creation. That's where this "we're all ISVs" talk is coming from, because partners that have made this transition are growing 5x to 14x faster than partners that are not following this advice.

Machine Learning and End-to-End Capabilities

Christian Buckley
Jul 15, 2015 07:51 UTC/GMT

Steve Guggenheimer highlighted a few companies using machine learning and advanced analytics to automate end-to-end experiences, on the front-end and the back-end, such as automating ERP activities. Ziosk video shared on how they're doing these things.

Another great example with a lot of data out there is Zara, the world's largest clothing retailer, which uses data and analytics to deliver over 1400 new clothing designs to global stores each year, with a design to store time of 6 weeks. Pretty amazing stuff.

Data Security Is Critical

Christian Buckley
Jul 15, 2015 07:29 UTC/GMT

At the Microsoft WPC keynote on July 15, 2015, Brad Smith, EVP talked about "Putting trust at the core of technology" telling the audience that Microsoft is not just building a company, but a community. He talked at length about the terrorist activities that happened last year to highlight changes in trust, security, and, ultimately, freedom of speech—and how it all relates to encryption and data security changes and how quickly laws and perceptions can change.

Microsoft has been putting tremendous resources into data security, and Brad shared 4 Microsoft cloud commitments:

-We'll keep your data secure

-Your data is private and under your control

-We manage data in accordance to the law

-You'll know what we're doing with your data

Relevant to this point is a recent ebook I wrote for Datto entitled "Defending Your Office 365 Data" which you can find here

An Enterprise Cloud you can Trust:

An Enterprise Cloud you can Trust:

  • Strong and Specific Security Safeguards
  • Personal Information Processed as Instructed
  • Strong Regulatory Compliance
  • Disclosure about Government Access
  • Transparency for Data Use

But how can we do it?

  • Backing our Commitments by Technology
  • Standing up to the Law as Required - Fighting for our Customers
  • Commitments Backed by Partners

But, we cant do it alone, we need you to share this message with your customers:

  • Security
  • Privacy & Control
  • Compliance
  • Transparency

Microsoft Going for Biggest Reboot in History

Naomi Moneypenny
Jul 13, 2015 13:59 UTC/GMT

This keynote at WPC 2015 feels very different than others I've attended. I feel Kevin Turner (COO at MSFT) Challenger mindset of last year is coming to the fore. I think MSFT is going through a major reboot. Embrace and extend has a new meaning now, its about openness, integration and innovation. I feel like this is more like a customer conference than a partner one, which has some subtle signals for the ecosystem.

Some incredible Azure stats - Azure is now bigger than AWS and Google Cloud combined. Serving the world, one datacenter at a time.  :)

Julia White Drops a Security Bombshell

Dan Holme
Jul 13, 2015 08:59 UTC/GMT

Julia White dropped a bombshell that's been "teased" at before, but has HUGE implications for data privacy in the cloud.

Next year, Office 365 will offer "Bring Your Own Key"!

This is GIGANTICALLY HUGE!!! This means that *nobody* at Microsoft can get to customer data without the customer's consent, in the form of providing the key. This means, indirectly, that no government authority (e.g. the NSA) will be able to subpoena data directly from Microsoft. They will have to subpoena the customer as well. That is SOOOO important to companies that are concerned about that kind of thing... which is many.

Empower Individuals & Organizations

Satya Nadella captures some key attributes - huge partner ecosystem all about the success of our customers.

Mobility is not simply about devices, its about our own human mobility. Its all about us - not the devices. This is very similar to the theme in The Learning Layer - no more zombie systems - computers must learn about people not the other way around anymore.

Democratize the ability for technology to be a true differentiation for each and every business. A passion for me is 'high value' IT - not what we do as opex reduction, running apps & infrastructure co, but instead that which actually creates and grows revenues for your company.

Collaboration is at the core of everything, in our personal lives as well as our business lives.

Reducing the cost of dealing with exceptions is part of the future of business productivity, Gigjam is a new canvas, an intelligent dynamic application that creates linkages between data sources to help knowledge workers identify the issue more efficiently
