With the release of SharePoint 2013, Microsoft dramatically changed the rules for SharePoint developers. The app model opens up new and exciting possibilities for development, but it also requires SharePoint developers to learn new programming skills. In this full-day workshop, you'll learn how to use various hosting models to develop apps for both on-premises installations and SharePoint Online. You'll learn best practices for accessing major workloads through the client-side object model and REST. You'll also learn about the new app security model and how to publish your apps in the SharePoint Store. At the end of the day, attendees will be ready to develop great SharePoint 2013 apps for on-premises and the cloud.

Module 1, Introduction to SharePoint Apps

  • Creating a development environment
  • Understanding hosting models
  • Packaging and deploying apps

Module 2, Understanding REST and CSOM

  • Consuming RESTful endpoints in SharePoint apps
  • Utilizing CSOM in SharePoint apps
  • Using SharePoint workloads such as search, user profiles, and content in SharePoint apps

Module 3, Understanding App Security

  • Understanding app principals
  • Understanding app authentication
  • Utilizing app permissions

Module 4, Advanced App Concepts

  • Utilizing the Chrome control

  • Using remote event receivers
