In a post to Office Blogs on May 4, 2016, the Office Team announced the release of Office Online Server (OOS), which enables customers to provision browser-based versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote from their on-premises environments. In the comments from the blog, customers with a Volume Licensing account were reporting problems finding the software for a few days. On May 9, 2016, the product appeared on MSDN to download as “Office Online Server” or “Office Online Server (Last updated May 2016).” According to a Microsoft representative in the comments section on the original blog, OOS is tied to an Office client license (Office Standard, Office Professional Plus, Office for Mac Standard, or Office 365 ProPlus), so the OOS software is associated with the relevant client license on VLSC.
