So, the rumors were proven to be true. Today it was official. There will NOT be another SharePoint Conference. Instead there will now be:
This new event which will take place the week of May 4th in Chicago, IL and will combine several of Microsoft’s conferences including the SharePoint Conference and TechEd.
What does this mean?
Great question. Does this mean there will now be SOO many people at the conference that you won’t be able to get a hotel room within 20 miles? Will the content be watered down because the conference does not focus on one technology? Is this a bad thing?
All good questions.
Having just come back from the World Partner Conference with 16,000 of my closest friends I know that Microsoft can pull off a conference that big. So, that doesn’t concern me. I, however, can’t conceive that there will be as many SharePoint sessions at the “Unified Technology Event for Enterprises”. This is not necessarily a bad thing as there were a few redundant sessions last time around.
I’m excited to see what happens and I very much hope to be a part of it, but what can YOU as a prospective SharePoint Conference attendee do?
How can you get the SharePoint content you crave?? Is it gone????
NO! Absolutely not! Because it just so happens that in less than two months a spectacular two day SharePoint Conference is taking place just south of Chicago. Many previous SharePoint Conference speakers will be presenting. One of the keynotes for the conference will be delivered by the Director of Program Management for the Office 365 APPS team Rob Lefferts and the Group Product Manager on the Office 365 team Chris Johnson. (It should be very interesting to hear what they have to say by then). The other keynote will be presented by SharePoint’s very own Steve Smith who is gracious enough to come all the way over from the UK to lend his knowledge and insights.
Not only does this conference boast of the best SharePoint MVP’s and MCM’s from around the world but it also has both sessions and workshops on everything SharePoint, Office 365, and Yammer related. In addition registration starts at only $30. And just when you think it can’t get any better, there will also be live music on a huge outdoor stage both nights!
I am talking of course about SharePointalooza.
Please, tell me more!
I’m so glad you are as eager as I am! SharePointalooza is the maturation of SharePoint Saturday Ozarks. Instead of your regular one day SharePoint Saturday, we’ve turned it into a two day event. In addition, we have the BEST speakers in the world presenting. Really, I’m in awe. These guys are that good. I would have rejected myself from speaking, but since I’m organizing it I kind of had an “in”.
Just take a look at who’ll be there: http://www.sharepointalooza.org/speakers/
And the sessions are equally impressive: http://www.sharepointalooza.org/schedule/
We have both sessions and in-depth technical workshops. There will be something for everyone in your organization whether you are a IT Pro, Developer, End User, or Business Decision Maker.
In addition to our awesome content, we are brining in some amazing bands fro Nashville and Chicago to play for you guys each night. That’s two nights of live music folks! Just check out these amazing talents:
“Mystery” by David Palmer and This Modern Station
Are those guys awesome or what?
Finally, the location for the concert is right in the middle of the country in Branson, Missouri. This central location is the perfect destination to learn about SharePoint and relax at night with some great music.

So, there is no more SharePoint Conference. I think we are going to be okay.
I look forward to seeing you there!
