With 2014 now in the history books, it's time to plan ahead for the next 12 months. From a community perspective, that means looking at upcoming conferences and activities to plan out and prioritize which ones to attend. Without question, Microsoft is looking to make a splash with their Ignite conference, and I for one am looking forward to seeing how they are able to embrace the various expertise needs across SharePoint, Office 365, Project, Exchange and TechEd.
When looking at the different shows, the first and most important thing to establish is whether you are looking for technical or business level training and support. SPTechCon, for example, is geared to a more technical audience, whereas CollabCon is establishing themselves in the business space. Ignite will have a focus on both, but check the agendas out and evaluate based on your specific needs. If you are the only person from your organization attending, take that into consideration as well. Going with others will allow more breadth across topics and sessions; which an individual is obviously only able to be in one session at a time. To that point, I wouldn't recommend splitting sessions and thinking that you will be able to grab the first half of one session and the back half of another. This rarely works effectively and is often more of a distraction to everyone, including yourself.
Here are a few shows that are coming up quickly, so check them out and find the one that fits your needs. If you have any questions about these shows or their focus, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].
